About me

About me

My name is Tara, also my name is Irish and it means the, queen star goddess of sea🌊.

I have no idea why my parents chose Tara to be my name because it’s not that common basically everywhere in the world.

I live in Melbourne, Australia and I love it here, and also last year my family and I were thinking of going up to Byron Bay to live there but it didn’t happen. I’m still happy in Melbourne because there’s lots of great places to visit here.

Right now I am 10 years old and in September I’m going to be 11. I feel like it’s forever but when is your actual birthday if feels like it’s only been a couple weeks to me. I also just came into grade 5 and I love it already the teachers are so nice.

There are a lot of things that I like to do but I have to say the one that I love the most is probably doing basketball,Spending time with my family and playing the ukulele. The reason why I love these the most is because basketball is so fun to do and it’s very active and I love to be active, also everybody loves to spend time with their family, now finally the ukulele I find it so much fun because it’s very small and even though it’s small it doesn’t that it’s not nice to play.

My blog is mainly all about telling people about things that I’ve done in school and also telling them some main ideas about what we did. I have no idea what will be right about this year but it will definitely be a lot of fun.

Here is a lovely picture of my blog avatar!

Library reflection

Hey guys!

I absolutely love reading books, so I’m here to tell you some reasons why I love to read.

The genre of books that I read the most and I enjoy the most is humour because I believe I am quite a funny person and I like to laugh a lot and when there’s funny parts in a book that makes me so happy. Another reason why I love humorous books is because I normally read in the eight and at night I’m probably like grumpy because I’m so tired it just makes me a lot happier, so when I’m going to sleep I’m not in a bad mood.

Because I love this genre Of book I’ve got quite a lot of suggestions. The first book is called the treehouse it is a series of books and I’ve read all of them and they’re really really funny. The second book that I would recommend is Tom Gates, this is also a series of books and I would really recommend it. There are obviously a lot more books in this genre but these are the only ones that I can think of today, here are some photos of the books too.

In books at the book that I am reading at the moment is called the girl, the cat and the navigator by Matilda Woods. This story is awesome I love reading it I read it two times that’s how much I like it. So far in the book it’s about this fortuneteller and she told a man and the woman that they are going to have four daughters and they will go out to sea. So all four of the kids were born and there were three push like daughters and one loves to explore and later on in their life they notice that there’s a cat on their boat, they wonder if it was real or was it just fake like a toy, but it was real. So after that The dad was going on a adventure and the mum and the four daughters we are also going on and adventure to the south but the dad was going to the north,But the youngest child didn’t want to go to the south she wanted to go to the north with her dad so she snuck onto her dad’s boat to get to the North Shore. That is all I’m going to say about the book I don’t want to spoil it for the people who want to read it.

I hope you like this blog post, I also hope that you read The Girl, the Cat and the Navigator and lots of funny books.

Bye!

The first month in year five

Hi everybody,

Happy new year! So I’m in year five now and so far it has been so much fun. This year I have a awesome teacher called Mrs Straford, she is so kind and funny. I’ve made so many new friends this year because there is about 40 new kids, is hard to meet all of them because there are so many.

So far my favourite part about year five is A.P.S. In APS so far we have done bike riding, swimming and the triathlon which we recently just did and now we’re moving onto rock climbing. When we did the triathlon we had to do it, but you can choose if you wanted to do the second one which I did because I wanted to beat my score and I did by three minutes. We are also doing an experiment, learning how to juggle. The reason why we are doing it is because we want to see if our brain can learn how to do this hard skill in three weeks and I can juggle, yay!

What year are you in this year, and are you enjoying it?

Salvation Army Visit

Hi followers

On Friday the 17th of August a man from the Salvation Army came to collect the blankets that the Year 4s had bought and sewn. We were very excited to give it to him.

That day, I felt like I have done something good and my heart felt all nice and fuzzy which made me really happy and just to know that I made one of those blankets for people that are less fortunate and need a bit of help.

The process of making the blankets was very hard especially when we had to learn how to blanket stitch, at first I had know idea how to do it but I never stopped trying and I eventually got it. Also not getting upset by getting go to buy the needle on the finger.

My favourite part was actually sticking the blanket cause found very peaceful especially when I stayed in at lunch with some of my friends and my teacher put on some music. Now that it’s all over I feel like I’ve done something awesome and these people appreciate it.

Future year 4s

Dear future year 4s,

I hear you’re coming up to year 4 next year.

Here’s there things you need:

-When you come up here you need to be prepared for some hard stuff, at the start of the year we did a times tables sheet and I didn’t know a lot of times tables, so be prepared.

-Resilience, you need resilience because there can be some hard times in year 4 but I know you guys can get through it.

-The last thing is connectedness because we do a lot of partner work, it is so fun when you get to work in partners but if you get a partner that you don’t like which happened to me, just go with it, it doesn’t matter you are only with them for a bit.

Two things to look forward to are….

-CAMP! Camp was the best, it’s fun because we all got to do these super fun activities like, the giant swing, that was my favourite activity because you could go to the top, I went to the top it was so much fun. P.S. it’s at Mt. Evelyn.

-The nativity play is so much fun, because we all get a part so no one is excluded and if you have a break until say you have another part you can be stage assistance.

A time that made me laugh was when we were practicing the nativity play and Tom forgot to say his part loud and then he said it really really loud.

A time I was challenged was at camp when we were walking to the camp site and the shortcut was blocked and the we had to take the long way, that took about 2 hours and 15 minutes.

I am proud of how I tried my hardest at cross country and I ended upcoming 22nd at regionals.

I always remember Mrs Burns and Mrs Haines saying “welcome to 4HB.”

Nativity Play Process

This term, the year 4s were working on the nativity play. Through out the nativity play we had to think P.L.As so through this text I’m going to tell you some of the P.L.As.  I’m going to tell you about 4HBs.

So the first step of starting the nativity play was to write the script., each person got into partners and wrote 1 scene each, I was partners with Liz and we wrote scene 3, it was the part where angel Gabriel was talking to Joseph in his sleep. To do this I needed to use collaboration and that is just what I did.

After everyone had finished their part of the play the teacher put it all together and then we had our first rehearsal, it wasn’t really a rehearsal it was like sitting in a circle and reading over it.

So then it was time for auditioning, I really wanted to be Mary I tried my hardest to get it but I didn’t so then I tried out for Elizabeth, Mary’s cousin. So I ended up with being…. I’m going to tell you later of how I got in the nativity play, but I think I got a pretty good part.

Finally it was time to go home and pick out what we were going to wear on the day. I loved picking what I was going to wear because I’ve never looked in my cupboard for clothes that a shepherd would wear.

Now we are rehearsing as hard as we can because the play is right around the corner and I’m very excited for it because I’m Narrator 1 and Shepherd 1 it’s not a big part but it’s still a good one.

This was my journey of how the nativity practice went for me, it was very, very fun.

Evaluating information books

Hi everyone

This term in library, each week we read two books for the CBCA Eve Pownall shortlisted books and then filled out a judging sheet. A good informational book needs to include interesting facts, detailed things, not information overload, a title that will hook the reader in and gives lessons to learn. Here are the books we judged, Make Believe, Waves, Sorry Day, Bouncing Back and The  Happiness Box. Personally I loved the book Make Believe by M.C Escher and Kate Ryan.

Here is a photo of the book I voted for which  includes the visuals, layout and information. After you filled out that you needed to write down some notes for the information part. I said, it was a lot to take in, but it has a lot of awesome information. Why I chose this book is because it has a lot of cool and fun activities in the book.

Why I gave this book the highest score is because I believe that it can be suitable for all ages which I think is awesome. It’s also one of a kind because not many books have activities in them and it also has awesome illusions in it.

Do you have to book Make Believe?

Meet the Scientists

Hey Guys!

This term Matilda and I conducted an experiment. The experiment helped us see which elastic band will break the fastest. It took very long to do everything because we had to wait for all 4 different elastic to break. There were 4 different sizes of elastic bands, 40 50 gram weights and hangers.

To see which elastic band will break the quickest, we had to hang up the hangers and put one of the elastic bands on and also put the weights on while there was a time laps. Matilda and I would both put on the elastic band as well as the weights. As we put the iPad against something to film.

It was quite a long process but in the end we finally finished. After we did the experiment we had to get an A3 poster and write down the method. After that we made a Keynote with the method, results, hypothesis, the title etc. my favourite part of the experiment was probably making the A3 poster it was really fun because you got to write down the method and then you got to do the all these pictures and decorate the page.

A PLA that I used was courage because I felt like the weights will come down on me. Have you ever done an experiment? Hope you enjoy.

Bye!

Times Tables Graph

Hi Everyone,

In term 2 and 3 maths, my class was focussing on times tables and we all had a goal, once we had all finished our first goal we would move to another goal, mine was the 7s and then the 8s. The year 4s only had 3 minutes to try and finish the whole sheet, after we finished our times tables we made a graph to show our progress.

One wish I have is that I could have a couple more days to work on my 8 times tables because I still need to practice.

Leak, Soak or Repel

Hi everyone

This term in Integrated Studies all the year 4s are focussing on Science. So yesterday we did an experiment called “Leak, Soak or Repel”. I was fascinated because the material called neoprene  actually leaked when I thought it would repel because I have a wetsuit and that is made out of neoprene and the water never comes in. I learnt that when my group poured water onto the cotton it looked like it was going to repel but then it fell over and leaked. We discovered that the best material is the wool because it is warm, soft and it repels water.

Our focus was to see what material we would use to give to the homeless. This year we are trying to raise more than $20 to buy them a rug. We found out that the material that most of us is going to buy is called fleece.

 Bye everybody
